iStent®: The first MIGS device to reduce intraocular pressure in mild to moderate glaucoma
iStent® is recommended for the reduction of intraocular pressure in patients with open-angle glaucoma. The key advantages of using the device include:

MINIMAL INVASIVITY
Implanted through a single entry point; iStent® is implanted during cataract surgery or as an individual procedure. If it is implanted during cataract surgery, iStent® is implanted through the same incision necessary for cataract surgery.

DIRECTLY IMPROVES PHYSIOLOGICAL FLUID DRAIN
Designed to create a bridge through the main blocking site (trabecular meshwork)

EXCELLENT SECURITY PROFILE.
iStent® is implanted together with cataract surgery or as an individual procedure in patients requiring intraocular pressure reduction.1-2

QUICK RECOVERY PERIOD
The recovery period of patients is usually fast, which allows them to return to daily activities.

POSITIVE RESULTS IN PATIENTS
Clinical studies show that most patients experience a reduction in their intraocular pressure and dependence on glaucoma medications.

Mechanism of action

The iStent® device is designed to improve drainage of aqueous humor through the natural pathways of physiological outflow. When the device is implanted in the trabecular meshwork, it is designed to open that section of the eye anatomy to allow the aqueous humor to flow from the anterior chamber to the Schlemm canal. The physiological preservation of the trabecular meshwork guarantees a natural episcleral venous pressure of 8 to 11 mm HG with minimal risk of hypotonia. The increase in drainage through the nasal quadrants has a significant impact on the decrease in IOP due to the high presence of collecting channels

The iStent® procedure

iStent® is inserted internally through a microincision, which can be phacoincision if performed at the same time as cataract surgery, and can be performed under topical anesthesia.
